The General Council of Iscte, after listening to the presentation of its program of action, elected Maria Lurdes Rodrigues to the position of Rector of Iscte. Without a competing candidacy, Maria de Lurdes Rodrigues assumed, in the presentation to the General Council, a program, for the second term, aiming to update the mission of Iscte, as a university institution, with the reinforcement of its responsibility in the processes of social cohesion, of the digital transition and environmental.
Over the next four years, Iscte will focus on five lines of action and five priorities:
1) Affirm the strategic and sustainable positioning of Iscte, as a university of reference in higher education in Portugal.
2) Promote interdisciplinarity and internationalization, as instruments for improving teaching, research and the dissemination of knowledge and service to the community.
3) Invest in the construction of residences to improve the conditions of integration and success of students;
4) Invest in the technological modernization of the campus, to improve the working conditions of teachers, researchers and employees.
5) Implement the Iscte-Sintra project in an integrated manner within Iscte’s activities, contributing to territorial cohesion, equal opportunities and the challenges of the digital transition.
“Iscte, through teaching, production of knowledge and capacity for innovation, will continue to participate and contribute to the modernization of the country, following the trajectory of its 50 years of existence”, said Maria de Lurdes Rodrigues. “As an element of the Portuguese higher education system, Iscte will also strive to propose and discuss policies that promote research, identifying and stimulating dynamics of anticipation, innovation and adaptation to the future: this requires knowing how to combine or balance continued investment in the development of the scientific system and of science production agendas, with investment in mobilizing knowledge to solve the country’s economic and social development problems”.
