The Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (NOVA) is a public institution of higher education and its mission is to serve society locally, regionally, and globally by advancing and disseminating knowledge and understanding across cultures, societies, and peoples.
NOVA is a global and civic university. Global, in the sense that its teaching and research follow an international agenda with a quality recognized by its partners abroad; and civic, because it is committed to the development of society, culture and economy of the Lisbon metropolitan area, of the country, of Europe and of the world, with special attention to the Portuguese-speaking countries, reinforcing centuries of common history.
The recognition of its quality in teaching and research is assured by international accreditations and prominent positions in prestigious rankings, in all areas of knowledge, which has ensured the participation in important international academic networks.
The realization of the NOVA project also involves the establishment of several national and international partnerships for development. Examples of such partnerships are the formation of the Campus SUL consortium, acceptance into the European alliance EUTOPIA or the implementation of a new Campus in Cairo.
Offering excellence in training at all levels of education that ensures the employers’ preference and the success of graduates in the labor market is one of NOVA’s main priorities. Another goal is to promote high-level, collaborative, interdisciplinary and transnational research that enables the development of solutions to better address major societal challenges, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the European Green Deal.
With 9 academic units, more than 22,000 students and 2,500 teachers and researchers, and more than 3,400 international students of 110 nationalities, NOVA stands out for its comprehensive character, internationalization culture in teaching and research, and deep commitment to the great challenges of society.
