The new rectoral team of the University of Beira Interior (UBI), led by Mário Raposo, is officially in office, after the inauguration ceremony that took place on June 8. José Páscoa, Helena Alves, Paulo Serra, Amélia Augusto, Sílvia Socorro and Sílvio Mariano will serve as vice-rectors, while Anabela Dinis and Pedro Inácio were appointed pro-rectors.
José Carlos Páscoa Marques (Department of Electromechanical Engineering) is the vice-chancellor for Internationalization and Interaction with Society. Its areas of action are internationalization, relationship with society, territory and economic activities; strategic planning, institutional projects and coordinator of the Internationalization and Ubimedical Office.
As for Helena Maria Baptista Alves (Department of Management and Economics) she has the Vice-Rectory for Teaching, Academic Affairs and Employability, being responsible for teaching, academic matters and pedagogical innovation; Internship and Entrepreneurship Office, Alumni and Public Relations Office.
Joaquim Mateus Paulo Serra (Department of Communication, Philosophy and Politics) is responsible for the Vice-Rectory for Human Resources, Competitions and Academic Acts, which manages the area of competitions for teachers and academic acts, human resources, assessments within the scope of the RAD and SIADAP, Society and Culture.
Amélia Maria Cavaca Augusto (Department of Sociology), Vice-Dean for Quality, Social Responsibility and Social Action, is in charge of the Quality Office, Internal Quality Assurance System, Institutional Assessment and Accreditation (A3ES), social responsibility and the goals of sustainable development, Social Action, Volunteering.
Sílvia Cristina da Cruz Marques Socorro (Department of Medical Sciences) manages the Vice-Rectory for Research, Innovation and Development, scientific research, innovation and development are delivered.
Sílvio José Pinto Simões Mariano (Department of Electromechanical Engineering) is the vice-rector for Heritage, Infrastructure and Sustainability, coordinating tasks related to heritage, buildings and infrastructure, sustainability and energy efficiency, Healthy University and Technical Services.
As for the Deans, Anabela do Rosário Leitão Dinis (Department of Management and Economics) will be responsible for the Financial area and Pedro Ricardo Morais Inácio (Department of Informatics) for the Digital University area.
This team will be coordinated by Mário Lino Barata Raposo, the fifth Rector in the history of UBI. The Full Professor of the Department of Management and Economics was elected for a term of four years.
In his inauguration speech, he expressed his intention to “take UBI further and further and make it even better”. Having quality teaching and excellent research are some of the goals, as well as continuing the process of internationalization of the academy, fighting school dropout and fighting for better infrastructures.
On the role of UBI for economic dynamism, he highlighted the importance of academia contributing to regional cohesion and competitiveness, through cooperation with entities, institutions and companies.
