National exams begin this Friday and will once again serve only as an entrance exam to universities and polytechnics, and not to finish secondary school. Is this change, introduced with the pandemic, here to stay?
The National Commission for Access to Higher Education (CNAES) promises to launch a “great debate” on the rules of access to universities and polytechnics in the last quarter of this year. The model has been the same for almost two decades and both the Ministry of Education and the National Education Council (CNE) are in favor of changes. The changes, however, will only happen after 2023, because the minister of higher education does not want changes until the end of the legislature.
